Ok, so we went through some quick things you could do to get into the spirit of fitness by making quick changes to your exercise routine and eating habits. Now we will go through the most important details that will get you to where you want to go. We cannot make you do anything. We cannot
It’s All In Your Head
I want you to get out a piece of paper (close to or around a standard sheet would be good enough). Now write down headings for 2 columns (1 Current and 2 What I want) and draw a line down the middle of the page. Now for 1-2 minutes, jot down whatever comes to your mind regarding fitness, food, dieting, looks, and anything else along those lines. Once you are done, close your eyes (do this when you are in a room alone or in some privacy where you can concentrate) and picture exactly the way you want to look, how your dream life would look, how happy you are in your “perfect” dream life, what you are doing, how you are spending time in this life, and keep your thoughts around things that make you happy and what your new body and lifestyle looks like. Try to do this for 5 minutes. What did you see? Write down everything you remember on the “What I want” column. If you had a hard time imagining good things, keep trying. Try this exercise once a day or at least a couple of times a week. Eventually, as with everything you practice, you will get better at imagining your “perfect” life.
It’s Your Life
We can’t live your life for you or tell you how you should look or feel. You have to know what you want out of your life before you move on to any real long lasting changes. Maybe you are just roaming through life without any definite purpose, and maybe that’s why you keep trying diets and trying to workout, and then getting nowhere quick. Some of you might say, “I am successful in my job, but why can’t I get the fitness part going?” Well, that is a good place to start. If you are successful in some parts of your life, but you want to conquer your health, then read on and follow the program.
Making Time
I don’t have any time! That’s what I hear the most from people. Work takes up my time. My dog takes up my time. My kids/wife/girfriend/boyfriend keep me busy. If you are so busy, how do the “healthy” people that you know, keep healthy and looking great? They make time. I have to tell you that I am as busy as most people if not more than. I travel all the time, work a bunch, have my other businesses, spend time with my girlfriend/family/friends, and I love to have fun too. What have I found is the “secret” to staying healthy and in shape? I don’t think there is one secret, but what I find is the best advice I can give is — workout early before all the distractions get in the way. I find that if I delay my workout to the afternoon, I might miss it, because I have to work late, some cool fun event came up, a friend is in town, or any other thing else that comes up in life. The other is buy your groceries (hopefully as healthy and organic as you can get) and cook in bulk. Cook a whole chicken or more at once, then freeze it. Cook veggies, side dishes, etc, and freeze them. The best thing to do once you cook them though, is to create portions and separate them in containers with the “correct size” portions so that you don’t overeat. Then you can take them with you for work, reheat when you get home, or eat healthier when you want a snack. Easy enough right? You need to go back to what I said, “Take action.” It takes some effort, but it isn’t hard.
Some other quick hints to cutting time:
- Make a priority list for the month/week/day.
- Stop watching so much TV or spending so much time on Facebook.
What Next?
You might say, “What’s next? I am so excited and ready to change my lifestyle and be happy and fit.” Well, what is next is the 30 day challenge. Starting October 4th, 2010, I will be posting every day for 30 days giving you a “lifestyle” program to follow. Each day will have a workout program to follow or other activities. It will have suggestions for meals, and anything else that might benefit you towards your new healthy life. I will also start posting videos for exercises so that you can follow the correct form of doing these. Please send your comments and suggestions to info@workoutempire.com, and I will try to incorporate them into the program or a new program or some other post.
Cliff Notes/Action Items
- Follow the Exercise in the first section to find out what you really want.
- Only you can take action. No one else can do this for you.
- Make time to do the important things in life.
